over the weekend my husband and i were discussing our footprint. we feel we are making a positive impact on earth with the choices we make daily. here are some of the choices we make:
- turn our lights off when we are not in that space
- recycle everything physically possible
- reuse containers – whether it be to hold craft supplies, or other food staples, we reuse as much as we can
- natural cleaners – i make most of my household cleaners, and soon, i will be making my own laundry soap too
- wash laundry in cold water always
- turned down our hot water heater (shhh … do not tell my husband who loves steamy hot showers)
- cloth diapers – so simple to use and clean i cannot believe more people do not use them
- use hand-me-downs for baby bird & pass on hand-me-downs
- shop at consignment stores or on craigslist for items we need
- shop locally as much as possible, especially when farm markets are open with produce
- compost our organics – this is now a city-wide program
- avoid using the car/gas if possible – on my days off baby bird and i walk or bike ride to the store or library, or just get out to the local parks
- e-bills – such a simple procedure, change your bills over to email reminders as opposed to receiving paper copies
i am sure there is even more that we do and i am going to continue to strive to be as earth-friendly as we can. take some time today to reflect on your footprint.
happy earth day!
